01 Why It Exists

The barrier was never interest

Ask a coach why a child stopped coming to training and the answer is almost never that they lost interest. It is the fare. It is the distance. It is a parent who cannot make the trip twice a week, or an eight-year-old whose mother will not let them cross that far alone — and who is right not to.

Rangers has trained on the same ground in Barangay Mabuhay since 1996. For families a few streets the wrong way, that pitch may as well have been in another city. The club could see the children it was missing. They were not hard to find. They were just further away than a pair of small legs could reasonably go.

So in 2026 Coach Jabez and Coach Ralph did the obvious thing, which is usually the difficult thing. Instead of asking the neighbourhood to come to the football, they carried the football to the neighbourhood.

02 The Motto

MABU spells something

The club takes its name from the school. It also spells the four things asked of every child who turns up — which is either a happy accident or exactly the sort of thing coaches notice and then refuse to let go of.

M MINDSET

Turn up ready. The head arrives before the boots do, and a player who has decided to learn today will out-improve a more talented one who has not.

A ATTITUDE

How you treat a team-mate on a bad day is the whole measure of you. Skill is coached here; being someone worth passing to is expected.

B BELIEF

In yourself when the scoreline says otherwise, and in the child beside you when it is their turn to struggle. Both are practised.

U UNITY

Nobody here plays for themselves. That is not a slogan on a wall, it is the reason the team sheet works at all.

03 Home Ground

A school is the one place every child already goes

FC New Mabu takes its name from New Mabuhay Elementary School — not as a sponsor, but as an address. That the same four letters spell the club's values is the kind of luck you accept gratefully and never mention again.

Training happens where the school day already ends. No extra trip, no extra fare, no parent rearranging a working afternoon.

A grounds a family already knows is a grounds a family will let a child stay at. Permission is half the battle in grassroots football.

Football played in a schoolyard recruits itself. Children who came to watch a friend end up in boots the following week.

Clubs tied to one coach leave when the coach does. A club tied to a school outlasts all of us.

04 Training

Football and futsal, from the first touch

Complete beginners
Most who arrive have never been coached. That is expected, and it is the point — nobody is behind here.
Football on grass
The full game: passing, movement, playing as a side rather than eleven children chasing one ball.
Futsal on hard court
Smaller pitch, more touches, faster decisions. It fits a schoolyard, and it builds close control quickly.
The Rangers way
Discipline, respect and turning up for each other are coached as deliberately as the passing — same as the parent club.

Part of something bigger

FC New Mabu is a sister team of Rangers Football Club, which has been developing players in Barangay Mabuhay since 1996. Players who want to push further can train at Gila, the skills academy, or step up into Rangers itself.

One community, three doors into the same game — and no child turned away for arriving at the wrong one.

Two coaches, one short walk

Coach Jabez

Rangers FC coach and co-founder of FC New Mabu. He is the reason the club sits where it sits: he kept count of the children who drifted away, and worked out that almost all of them lived on the same side of the barangay.
